Moon! Earth’s best friend – Book Review

This is a very cool book by Stacy McAnulty and it is illustrated by Stevie Lewis. My little girl, these days are into planets, space and rockets. Her interest towards these things has developed so much that she insists me to read only space books whenever we are in library. This all started when we were watching a movie about “Mangalyan” a space probe, that was launched by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in the year 2013.

I knew she was so engrossed in the movie but never thought she was really paying attention to words like “satellite” and “rocket”. It was a total surprise for me when she was still talking about rockets after the movie and I didn’t want that interest to just fade away in few days. That’s when I borrowed this book from library and told her about space, moon and planets in a way she could understand.

The book talks about the formation of moon, gravity of the moon, how moon’s gravity helps the earth from not being wobbly, how long moon takes to spin around the earth, a little about moons of other planets and many other fascinating facts. The book majorly says about how Earth and moon are interdependent which explains us why they are truly best buddies! Yes, the best part is, all the information, history and scientific facts are told from the perspective of the moon itself.

The illustrator has made a fantastic job by portraying the moon with a very cute, lovable, and sweet personality and in every page, her expressions are just adorable. My little girl loves to imitate those faces made by the moon and I enjoy doing that too with her! The illustrations and the facts go hand in hand and make the book a perfect treat for little book-worms.

I definitely recommend this book along with the other two books in the series, Earth and Sun by the same author, Stacy McAnulty for little children and it will be a great way to introduce space-science to them.
