Travel mama tales – 1 – Guest post

I got great response for the post that was inviting guest articles from moms that travel. I would love to thank all of you who reached out to me and I am truly excited to be hosting all of these talented moms in my blog.

Kirsti, a super awesome mommy is our first guest and she writes about parenting, travelling in her space, Life as The Lonsdales. You should really check this page because her family is just too adorable and her stories are so relatable. I am sure her article will inspire many of us to overcome that hesitation to travel with kids, especially in this time of uncertainty.

Here is the first part of Kirsti’s engrossing and encouraging words for moms that wish to travel with kids, around the world.

I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you that this year has been different in many ways for everyone. The outbreak of Covid-19 has had a catastrophic effect on the world and with that has impacted all of our lives in more ways than one. One of the many ways it has caused a big change, well, in our case anyway and I am sure in others too, is the way that we travel. For us it has meant that we haven’t been able to travel to certain places and/or as much as we would like to.

Me and my family love going on holiday, we like to go on holiday abroad but we love staycations just as much – which is just as well really as I think it could be a while before we book another holiday abroad due to all of the uncertainty at the moment.
From being young I remember always wanting to travel and to see the world. There are so many beautiful places to see. I love to travel, I always have and I still do. Before becoming a mum I had been lucky enough to travel to many places. I feel very fortunate to have been able to visit and see so many beautiful places in my life.

My love for travelling hasn’t changed since I’ve become a mum either, it just means that I still love to travel to different places except now I love to visit them with my family and to share those experiences and to make holiday memories with them. There are many reasons why I love to travel but I think that is the main reason why I love to travel with my family.

Yes it feels amazing to escape mundane day to day life even if just for a while, I would also like to say to get away and to ‘take a break’ however when you’re holidaying with kids it’s hardly relaxing – I am being totally honest here. Whether you’re at home or on holiday, your kids will still need taking care of as usual (obviously) but it can still be enjoyable. Here are some of my own tips  that I found at the time made travelling with my son that bit smoother.

I found keeping a list of everything we might need written down and then going through the list and ticking each item off as I packed them helped just so I could make sure I wouldn’t forget any of those all important essentials. Some of these items depending on the age of your child could include things like making sure you have packed enough nappies, wipes, dummies, clothes, toys, sun cream and snacks.

If you are thinking of travelling with your child, I have this to say… DO IT! Travelling together as a family has been one of the most rewarding things I have ever done and each time we go on holiday together I feel that it brings us closer together as well.

As always, thank you for reading. Please let me know your thoughts on this article by leaving a comment.
